Driving sustainable investment in African Mining

Paul Sowley

Senior Director, Environmental Affairs – Africa Business Unit Newmont

Paul Sowley is a Sustainability professional with over 29 years of international experience in the Mining industry, working in various mining jurisdictions including Ghana, Tanzania, Mali and Guinea.

He has been involved in all phases of a mining project, from discovery to closure. Paul led the decommissioning and surrender of Resolute Mining Leases in 2006, which was also the first mine in Ghana and few across the globe to be closed through a regulated decommissioning process and lease surrender.

Paul has held several leadership roles during his 14-year career in Newmont. With his current role as Senior Director, Environmental Affairs, he provides leadership in environmental stewardship across the Newmont Africa Business Unit.
