Nomfundo Ngcobo is an admitted attorney who served articles at Thabile Furhmann and Associates (now acquired by Cliff Dekker Hofmeyer). She is a well-rounded legal professional with very strong corporate commercial skills, corporate governance, compliance, structuring, financing and investment expertise, including mitigating risk and managing exposure by providing for necessary securities. Her strengths lie in research, due diligence on investments, company and transaction structuring, corporate funding and structured finance. Nomfundo’ experience ranges from litigation, company turn arounds, business rescue, restructuring and recoveries space, having dealt with the distressed business portfolio at the IDC from 2012 to 2014 in the litigation, business rescue and insolvency section of the IDC legal department.  
In 2014 Nomfundo moved to the commercial services section of the IDC where she serviced the Basic Metals and Mining, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Energy. In this space she has conducted due diligence on transaction ranging from R6million to R1,9billion in value. This included assisting in the procurement of the necessary regulatory and compliance permits/ licenses, drawing up the requisite funding and security agreements. Her competencies include analytical skills, technical commercial legal advice; the ability to do advanced research for problem solving and decision making. She was part of the IDC team tasked with making contributions to the Mining Charter late 2017. Having serviced the Mining business unit for 6 years Nomfundo has sound knowledge of the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act, Mining Charter, Mine Health and Safety Act, Companies Act and is fairly competent in Labour legislation. 
Nomfundo is currently a Senior Strategist in the Corporate Strategy department of the IDC. Since July 2019 she has been involved in strategy formulation, implementation and monitoring. She is responsible for inter alia, business planning, corporate planning, capital allocation and reporting to stakeholders on same. Through various academic/theoretical and practical exposure she has been able to hone her financial skills considerably. She is a sound decision maker, compassionate yet skilful leader and; continues to enhance her leadership skills.  
She is able to demonstrate logic, rationality and objectivity in decision making whilst balancing speed and thoroughness. She is a collaborative leader with a strong drive for results yet the ability to diffuse tension. She is tenacious yet adaptable allowing her to be agile and responsive. She has been trained as a facilitator and moderator thus her interpersonal skills are above average. She is innovative, industrious and proactive with the ability to efficiently improvise. Nomfundo values integrity, ethical behaviour and prioritises good corporate governance as a critical line of defence in business. 
Nomfundo Ngcobo is a board member of Platinum Hospitality Holdings (previously known as Protea Hotels before the sale of the management contract to Marriott International). Nomfundo is also a board member of NIH Proprietary Limited. Nomfundo has as at July 2018 been elected to serve on the Executive Committee, Convocation of Wits University where her duties in addition to officiating graduations, include influencing the strategy of the university. Nomfundo considers herself an active citizen and stretches herself to make an impact in her social space. 
Previously, Nomfundo was the chairperson of WorkersLife Insurance and WorkersLife Assurance (subsidiaries of the WorkersLife Group). Before being appointed as the Chair of the subsidiaries she was as a board and Risk Committee member at the holding entity being PGC Group of Companies. Nomfundo has recently joined the boards of Emerald Life and Eyesizwe Mining RF. 
Nomfundo has an LLB (Wits), LLM (UNISA), Post Graduate Diploma in General Management and an MBA (GIBS).
