Driving sustainable investment in African Mining

Jon Stanton

CEO Weir Group

Jon Stanton is CEO of The Weir Group PLC, a FTSE100 engineering company and a world leading provider of mining technology with 12,000 employees operating in more than 60 countries.

Since becoming CEO in 2016 Jon has led one of the most significant transformations in the Group’s 150-year history.  This has included exiting the oil and gas and power businesses and completing Weir’s largest ever acquisition with the $1.3bn purchase of ESCO Corporation, the world’s leading provider of ground engaging tools for large mining machines.

Weir is now focused on premium mining technology markets that are well positioned to benefit from long-term structural trends including demographic changes, decarbonisation and growing need for smarter, more efficient and sustainable operations.

Jon first joined Weir as Group Finance Director in 2010 having previously been a partner with EY where he led global board-level relationships with a number of FTSE-100 multi-national companies.  In May 2019 he joined the Board of Imperial Brands as a Non-Executive Director and became Chair of the Audit Committee in June 2020.
