Iván Arriagada is the CEO of Antofagasta plc, one of the ten largest copper producers and the only Chilean company listed on the London Stock Exchange.
Mr. Arriagada is a commercial engineer from the Adolfo Ibáñez Business School at Universidad Federico Santa María and has a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics.
He has been CEO of Antofagasta since 2015 and previously held the post of Chief Financial Officer at Chilean state copper mining Codelco. Prior to that, he served at BHP Billiton as Operations Vice-President, Base Metals and before this was Chief Financial Officer for the Base Metals group also at BHP Billiton. Before entering the world of copper mining, Mr. Arriagada spent a good part of his career in the oil and gas industry, at Royal Dutch Shell International, holding senior positions in Chile, England, the U.S., and Argentina.
Mr. Arriagada also serves as the Chair of the Board of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), which brings together the CEOs of the largest mining and metals companies globally, representing approximately one third of the mining industry worldwide. He previously served as the Chair of the International Copper Association, ICA.
Mr. Arriagada is also the Chair of the Chile Mining Council in Chile, which is the main mining industry association of the country.
Mr. Arriagada was awarded the 2022 Ankh Award distinction in the US, designated Copper Person of the year.
